Our brief from a young professional couple was to fully refurbish this period detached property on the Village Hill slope.
Along with the redesign of the interior ground floor rooms, we provided new full lower ground facilities for their young children.
With the backing of the clients, and after several meetings we convinced the planners of the merits of a large ground floor rear lean-to breakfast room. A spiral staircase was central to the plan development, linking the lower ground to ground and providing ready access for all.
Technically the challenge was the creation of a watertight basement and internal link to the new extension on the hill with a stream running through the site.
The clients wanted to create a contemporary interior but to remain sympathetic to the exterior character of the property in a Conservation Area. The successful outcome of the project was due in no small measure to a close collaboration between client and design team, supported by an experienced contractor in refurbishment walls
For the extension of their home, the clients had two main requirements; the creation of a feature breakfast room and a large family room for their children to enjoy.
After several meetings and design alternatives, the feature garden elevation was arrived at to their satisfaction.
With the addition of roof lights, the sense of light and space was completed and the clients went off in search of a large table and chairs to complete the interior.

A mix of new and refurbishment residential flats, over a high street office location in Wimbledon.
In conjunction with the developer/contractor, we provided detailed drawings and project management experience to assist the build out of this residential scheme.
Site constraints in this urban context made co-ordination and management with the project team and neighboring businesses essential to the successful outcome, particularly the rear site new build units.

SW7: A character redevelopment brief from a Swedish and Malaysian client who had chosen this property out of many viewed in a popular mews off Gloucester Road.
We stripped out the entire interior ad re-planned four storeys of accommodation to include a new lower ground for a kitchen and utility room.
Husband and wife had very strong ideas about the look and layout that they required. Through a concerted design period that included the decision to excavate and move the kitchen into a new formed basement. A very satisfied outcome was achieved, assisted by a very conscientious contractor.
CSarchitects provided a full architectural service and extensive external and internal alteration and refurbishment of the existing mews property including the excavation of a basement.
The design service included accommodation of several features niches to contain their sculpture and art works.
The full services allowed for liaison with specialist subcontractors to co-ordinate fixtures and fittings including a fine oak staircase.
A significant commercial project to be undertaken by a small practice was made even more interesting as the client had no previous development experience. We brought all our experience to the fore and working closely with other consultants took a planning approved scheme through the construction phase
Nearing completion the scheme was for 12no.live/work units to be provided with a ground floor car park and involved the specification of kitchens and bathrooms to personalise the project and lift it from an industrial to a residential project
The client is very satisfied with the outcome and currently is looking for other sites to develop.

Special project requirement for the design and construction of three new build contemporary penthouse flats on the roof of an existing 1920's mansion block on Wimbledon Hill.
In consultation with Structural Engineers as lightweight metal frame system was utilised to reduce the load on the building and provide for fast track construction.
Specification of dry facade materials and rain screen cladding was inherent in the form of construction and the process of constructing 'flats on the roof'
Just completed for a local developer a pair of 3 and 2 bed semidetached houses – to code 4 sustainable standards and 15% renewable energy criteria above the local council requirements.
The sloping site and restricted plot width provided a good measure of attention to detail that satisfied NABC criteria and planning approval conditions.
This was an interesting exercise for the practice in close association with the builder to understand development costing and sustainability issue. Rainwater harvesting was a consideration at an early stage!
